Braunschweig, Dukedom. A House Order of Henry the Lion, Grand Commander's Star, by F. Siebrecht, c. 1910

(Herzoglich Braunschweigischer Orden Heinrichs des Löwen). Instituted 1834 by Duke Wilhelm of Brunswick. Grand Commander star, in silver, consisting of a large Maltese cross with ball finials, with five individual rays and a pebbled background on each arm, with a Gold royal cipher of Wilhelm in each quadrant, obverse centre presenting the Order Motto “IMMOTA FIDES” on a red enamel background surrounded by a Gold laurel and oak wreath, Roman numeral institution date MMCCCXXXIV at 6'clock centre, reverse centre featuring a fine dual pin assembly and dual catch, makers cartouche of F. Siebrecht, hallmarked with a crescent moon, crown, 900 silver fineness and S, measures 72.35mm (w) x 72.60mm (h), weighs 50.8 grams, enamels intact, lovely patina, in extremely fine condition.

 

Footnote: The Dukely Order of Henry the Lion was founded by Duke Wilhelm of Brunswick on April 25, 1834. The order was conferred upon individuals who distinguished themselves by rending meritorious military or civil service.
