(Haus- und Ritter-Orden vom Phoenix). Instituted 1770. A superb commander breast star of French manufacture, in gilded silver, featuring a rounded eight point star with alternating smooth and feathered rays, the center medallion presents a hand painted phoenix with outstretched wings rising from the flames on a blue enamel field, surrounded by a white enamel ring with motto EX FLAMMIS CLARIOR (Brighter Than The Flames), with a beaded exterior ring, the reverse plain with a single fluted pin assembly, measures 74.9mm (w) x 74.7mm (h), weighs 51.7 grams, enamels intact, light wear consistent with age, an extremely rare and beautiful decoration of extremely fine condition.
Contained in an unofficial but period French made circular case consisting of red leatherette with a crème coloured silk and blue velvet interior, simple hook and eye closure, measures 86mm in diameter, light wear on interior and exterior, in very fine condition.
