United States. A Society of American Wars of the United States Membership Badge, c.1900
A six point star in blue and white enamel with a green enamel wreath in each quadrant containing a pentagon shaped shield, each with a different symbol representing a different war, suspended by an eagle in a wreath, centre obverse bears a read enamelled medallion with a superimposed American coat of arms, surrounded with VICERUNT VT VIVAMUS inscribed in red, centre reverse is engraved “922 T.L.E” and is surrounded by an embossed ring reading SOCIETY OF AMERICAN WARS, the back of each shield is engraved with the dates from the corresponding war represented by the observe symbol, ranging from 1607-1898, makers marked VW near suspension, measures 32mm (w) x 58.5mm (h-inclusive of eagle in wreath suspension), weighs 27.7 grams including ribbon, on original ribbon with pin and clasp, enamels fully intact, extremely fine condition.
