Germany, Imperial. A Rare 1914 Iron Cross I Class, One-Piece Screwback Variation
(Eisernes Kreuz 1914 I. Klasse). Reinstituted 5 August 1914. (1914-1918). Constructed of a blackened and silvered non-magnetic metal alloy, consisting of a one-piece Cross Pattée with a blackened core set within a ribbed silver frame, the obverse with a central initial “W”, the six o’clock arm with a reinstitution date of “1914”, the twelve o’clock arm with a royal crown, the reverse with a central threaded lug, retaining a period original backplate and washer, unmarked, measuring 42.75 mm (w) x 42.16 mm (h), weighing 24.8 grams, with minor loss of finish evident to the core, an rare and unusual example in extremely fine condition.
