(Haus Ritter Orden vom Heiligen Hubertus, Großkreuz). A fine example of an early star consisting of an eight armed mulit ray star in toned silver, obverse consisting of a Gold cross pattee with white enameled arms; the center with a red enameled medallion inscribed “In Trav Vast” (Latin - In Loyalty), surrounded by a Gold ring; vertical pinback with a functional hinge/catch assembly, with the addition of two downward pointing stabilizing stays to the left and right of the pin; maker marked “Schnitzpahn in Darmstadt” on the reverse, (Martin Schnitzpahn operated in Darmstadt 1832-1840), measuring 78.26 mm (w) x 78.00 mm (h); weighing 44.4 grams; the tip of the nine o’clock arm slightly bent outwards caused by wear, otherwise in better than extremely fine condition.

Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
