1817-1818 Issue. (Militärdenkzeichen für 1813, 1814). A bronze cross; the obverse inscribed with the royal monogram om Maximilian Joseph I, inscribed “Für die Jahre 1813 und 1814” (German - For the Years 1813 and 1814) on the arms of the cross; the reverse bearing a Bavarian rampant lion, inscribed “König und Vaterland” (German - King and Fatherland); on a loop for suspension from its period original ribbon; measuring 31.82 mm (w) x 37.51 mm (h); weighing 11.8 grams; with some of its finish having been lost through time and age, but with the majority still remaining; in overall near very fine condition.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
