Canada. A Royal Canadian Artillery Forage Cap of Lieutenant-Colonel A.V. Taylor, CD
This fine quality cap has a 45 mm wide red wool band, with the body of the cap fabricated from a black wool, in the traditional flat top design with raised peak. There are two black metal eyelets on each side of the cap on the underside of the overhang for ventilation. The front is adorned with a 65 mm (w) x 49.5 mm (h) fire gilt Royal Canadian Artillery Cap Badge. The black patent leather visor has a black two-piece patent leather strap resting along the top edge, held in position via silvered Canadian Army insignia service buttons on both sides, along with a raised 12 mm wide border on the brim covered in silvered bullion wire, trimmed in gold-coloured bullion wire cord on either side. The underside of the visor has a green synthetic finish, the visor itself very stiff. The 45 mm wide sweatband is fabricated from chocolate brown leather, with the two ends held together by a white ribbon which is finished in a bow-tie. The front of the sweatband over the visor has an additional reinforcing patch of deerskin leather stitched to the leather sweatband, aiding in restricting sweat from the wearer's forehead. The underside of the sweatband on the left side is named in black ink to "MAJOR A.V. TAYLOR". The sidewalls and dome are covered in a moisture-resistant fabric, with a "Stokes CAP & REGALIA LTD. TORONTO ONTARIO" manufacturer's label placed in the dome under the moisture-resistant covering. The visor and strap exhibit very light crazing, with one small nip in the trim on the visor's edge. Overall, it continues to exhibit smooth quality in the wool, plus quality workmanship, intact stitching, maintaining its original period look, extremely fine.
