Canada. A Royal Canadian Regiment Forage Cap
This fine quality cap has a 47 mm wide red wool band, with the body of the cap fabricated from a black wool, in the traditional flat top design with raised peak. There are four black metal eyelets, two on either side of the seam at the rear of the cap, on the underside of the overhang for ventilation. The front is adorned with a 50.7 mm (w) x 50.7 mm (h) gilt and silvered metal Royal Canadian Regiment Cap Badge. The black patent leather visor has a black two-piece patent leather strap resting along the top edge, held in position via brass Royal Canadian Regiment buttons on both sides, along with a raised 12 mm wide border on the brim covered in gold-coloured bullion wire, trimmed in gold-coloured bullion wire cord on either side. The underside of the visor has a green synthetic finish, the visor itself very stiff. The 50 mm wide sweatband is fabricated from tawny brown leather, with the two ends held together by a white ribbon which is finished in a bow-tie. The sidewalls and dome are lined in red satin, with a "Wm SCULLY 1202 UNIVERSITY ST. MONTREAL" manufacturer's label placed in the dome under the diamond-shaped celluloid moisture shield. The visor exhibits very light crazing, the strap with edge wear, oxidation evident on the brass button on the left side, with light soiling on the sweatband. Overall, it continues to exhibit smooth quality in the wool, plus quality workmanship, intact stitching, maintaining its original period look, near extremely fine.
