(Orden de Boyacá). Instituted 1930. 1930-present issue. An eight-pointed star in silver with clusters of rays in each quadrant, obverse centre depicting a four-armed enameled blue Pattee cross featuring a superposed bust of Simon Bolívar surrounded by a blue enameled border with the inscription ORDEN DE BOYACA (Order of Boyaca) in silver gilt, reverse with pin assembly and dual stays, measuring 78.48 (w) x 78.61 mm (h), with loss of blue enamels and gilt, good.
Footnote: The Order of Boyacá was officially instituted on August 6, 1930. It was founded to reward Colombian nationals and foreigners, civilian and military, for rendering exceptional service to the nation in time of war or while maintaining public order.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
