A Austro-Hungarian flyers badge displaying an eagle in flight, an aeroplane flying over an aerodrome below, with a sunrise in the background, flanked by the coat of arms of Austria and Hungary, a ribbon banner at the base inscribed “GUT LAND 1914-15,” measuring 40.07 mm (w) x 30.78 mm (h), and in very fine condition.A badge constructed of multi-coloured enamels, displaying three flags (Germany, Hungary, Habsburg), on a horizontal pinback, measuring 41.73 mm (w) x 18.53 mm (h), and in extremely fine condition. A circular badge presenting the Emperor Franz Josef in prayer, circumscribed by the text “GOTT WIRD UNS ZUM SIEGE HELFEN” (“GOD WILL HELP US TO VICTORY”), on a horizontal pinback, measuring 31.28 mm in diameter, and in near extremely fine condition.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
