(Kaiserlich-österreichischer Leopold Orden). Instituted on 7 January 1808. Type III. (1914-1918 Issue). In bronze gilt, presenting as an eight-pointed Leopold Cross, enamelled red with a white frame, the obverse centre shows the initials FIA over a red enamelled medallion, circumscribed by the device of the order INTEGRITATI ET MERITO (FOR INTEGRITY AND MERIT) over a field of white enamel, the reverse centre presents the motto of Emperor Leopold II OPES REGUM CORDA SUBDITORUM (THE DEEDS OF THE KING WIN THE HEARTS OF HIS SUBJECTS), over a field of white enamel, surrounded by a golden laurel wreath, surmounted by the Imperial Austrian crown with the inside enamelled in red, marked with a star hallmark, presenting a maker’s mark A.E. KÖCHERT on suspension ring, measuring 47.55 mm (w) x 87.06 mm (h - inclusive of crown), weighing 40.1 grams, on loop for suspension from mid 20th century original sash, and in very fine condition.

This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
