A grouping of two Imperial Austrian long service medals, consisting of 1) An Austrian Bronze Honour Medal for 40-Year Long Service; in bronze; the obverse depicting a rightward facing bust of Kaiser Franz Joseph, circumscribed by his name and title and an oak wreath along the edge of the medal; the reverse inscribed “XXXX - Perfacty Signumiaboris Fideliter”; on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon featuring a golden bullion star; measuring 34.23 mm in diameter; weighing 19.3 grams. 2) An Austrian Honour Medal for 25-Years of Life Saving and Fire Service; in gilt bronze; the obverse with a rightward facing bust of Kaiser Franz Joseph within a laurel wreath; the reverse inscribed “XXV” and “Fortitudinl Vicrtuity Et Perseverantiae” on the reverse; on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon featuring a golden bullion round star; measuring 31.58 mm in diameter; weighing 18.6 grams; in overall better than very fine condition.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
