Two medals and awards, consisting of 1) A 1919 Issue Carinthia Cross; constructed of silvered bronze; the obverse inscribed “Kärntner Freiheitskampf” (German - Carinthian fight for freedom), dated “1918-1919”; the reverse inscribed “Für Tapferkeit” (German - For Bravery); on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon; measuring 33.11 mm (w) x 37.04 mm (h); weighing 15.0 grams. 2) An Imperian 1908 Issue Bosnia Bosnia Medal; constructed of bronze; the obverse with a rightward facing bust of Kaiser Franz Joseph, circumscribed by Latin text; the reverse with a Carinthian coat of arms, inscribed “In Memoriam” (In memory); on loop for suspension; maker marked “H. Placht. Fec” on the obverse; measuring 36.03 mm in diameter; weighing 26.4 grams; in overall very fine condition.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
