(Etui). An original presentation case of issue for the Bavarian Military Order of Merit, I Class, constructed of light-blue leatherette, the obverse is embossed in silver with Bayr. M.V.O. 1.Kl., the interior with a white satin lining, maker marked for Gebrüder Hemmerle of München, with intact hinge cover, a slotted white-felt medal bed, with functional clasp, includes a blue paper insert stating Die Inhaber des K. Bayerischen Militär-Verdienstorden 1. Klasse tragen das Ordenskreuz am grossen Bande von der rechten Schulter zur linken Hüfte, den Stern auf der linken Brustseite; wird das grosse Band nicht angelegt, so kann das Ordenskreuz um den Hals getragen werden. (The holders of the Royal Bavarian Military Order of Merit 1 Class wear the cross of the Order on the large sash from the right shoulder to the left hip, the star on the left side of the chest. If the big sash is not put on, the Cross can be worn around the neck.), measuring 12 cm (w) x 22.5 cm (l) x 4.5 cm (h), and in near extremely fine condition.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
