(Ordre de Couronne). Instituted in 1897. Insignia in silver gilt with blue and white enamels, mounted to a five-pointed silver star base, the arms are faceted and finished with ball finials, five rays emanating between each arm, maker marked ""FERNAND HEREMANS 9, RUE DE LA RUCHE BRUXELLES SCHAERBEEK"" and marked ""FABRICANT D'ORDRES FOURNISSEUR DU GOUVERNEMENT"" (Manufacturer and Supplier of Orders to the Government) on the reverse cartouche, measuring 85.5 mm (w) x 85.5 mm (h), vertical pinback flanked by dual stays, insignia slightly loose versus the silver base, scratches evident on the reverse, near extremely fine.

Footnote: The Order of the Crown was instituted on October 15, 1897, with the Palms and Medals being added on June 25, 1898. It is awarded for merit in art, literature, science, commerce and industry and is issued five classes: Grand Cross, Grand Officer, Commander, Officer and Knight; two palms (Gold and Silver); and three medals (Gold, Silver and Bronze). 

This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society. His knowledge and passion for history and awards is evident in this meticulously compiled collection that is now available in its entirety for the first time exclusively on eMedals.com.
