Type II. In die-stamped silvered bronze with red and white enamels, voided, illustrating an anchor bearing the Croatian shield and the date "1941", surrounded by the inscription "HRVATSKA POMORSKA LEGIJA", measuring 37.7 mm (w) x 49 mm (h), vertical pinback, intact enamels, extremely fine.
Footnote: Badge was introduced in 1942 and was worn by the members of Croatian Naval Legion. Croatian Naval Legion was involved in the Eastern (Russian) front as part of the German Naval group 'Unterseebootjagerflotille 23' at the Black Sea during 1942-43. Legion’s commander was Andro Vrkljan, and duties of the Legion included escort, minesweeping and alike. Badge was awarded after 2 months of active service.

Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
