A sash badge in silver consisting of an enameled red six-pointed star with Croatian-style molines along the cross, suspended by an ornamented loop and arranged ribbon suspension, obverse centre presenting a superposed silver letter "U" with a flaming grenade with the Croatian coat of arms, reverse in red enamels exhibiting the inscription ZA ZASLUGE 10.IV.1942, measuring 41.61 mm (w) x 62.36 mm (h - inclusive of ornamented loop suspension), toned silver, on original ribbon with attached clip on the reverse, very fine condition. Accompanied by the matching star, an white enamel four armed cross constructed of silver, composed of clusters of rays, obverse centre presents a red-enamelled six-pointed cross, also featuring a silver letter "U" with a flaming grenade with the Croatian coat of arms, reverse centre presents a silvered cross inscribed ZA ZASLUGE 10.IV.1942, with principle pin assembly, pin marked maker’s mark with BK for Braća Knaus, with Croatian hallmark denoting with numeral "III" denoting .800 silver content, measuring 73.10.41 mm (w) x 74.20 mm (h), displaying white enamel loss, in very fine condition.

Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
