(Orden de Carlos Manuel de Cespedes). Instituted in 1926. Hardshelled design on both the lid and base, with distinctive rounded corners, the exterior with a maroon leather-look paper covering on all sides, inside lid lined in white satin and padded, a white cardboard insert placed within the off-white synthetic lined base and housing a raised platform in cream-coloured felt, push release closure, measuring 89 mm (w) x 126.5 mm (h) x 45.8 mm (d), light wear evident on the lid, the bottom with a gouge present, light soiling on the satin lining and the felt medal bed, fine.
Footnote: The Order was instituted on April 18, 1926 and awarded to recognize especial merit and service to the Republic of Cuba. It was named for Carlos Manuel de Céspedes (1819-1874), a leading figure in the Cuban War of Independence who made the "Grito de Yara" (Cry of Yara) on October 10, 1868 declaring Cuban independence and was President of the fledgling republic from 1869 to 1873.
