(Nishan al-Nil). Instituted 1915 by Sultan Husain Kamil. In silver, consisting of ten multifaceted rays, with gilt radiating from centre medallion, obverse presents a white enameled five armed star with silver gilt centre, reverse marked Lattes and Cairo assay marked/silver standard marked, marked with a Cat (National Mark used between 1916 and 1946) and date marked ""Z"" (1924-1925), measuring 43.2 mm (w) x 64 mm (h - inclusive of crown suspension), on period Knight ribbon, toned silver, extremely fine. With original case of issue, wooden framed and wrapped in blue leather, gold embossed boardering and details, interior lid marked Lattes, Cairo, fine.
Footnote: The Order of the Nile was instituted in 1915 by Sultan Hussein Kamel, to reward persons, military or civilian, who had rendered useful service to Egypt. It was reconstituted under the Arab Republic of Egypt on June 18, 1953, but without the crown. In the Kingdom of Egypt, the Order of the Nile ranked beneath the Order of Ismail.

Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
