In Gold, a four-armed enameled white cross, with interwoven ornamental laces in each quadrant, obverse centre exhibiting a superposed Gold Italian royal crown, on an enameled dark blue background, reverse exhibiting a superposed coat of arms of the Italian Kingdom with red, white and black enamels, measuring 51.23 mm (w) x 56.86 mm (h - inclusive of the integral ring), weighing 21.8 grams, presenting cracked enamels on the 6 o’clock arm, accompanied by original neck ribbon, extremely fine.
Footnote: The Order was founded by Victor Emmanuel II to commemorate the unification of Italy in 1861. It was the first national Order instituted after the unification of the Kingdom of Italy. It was officially suppressed after the fall of the Monarchy in 1946.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps.
