(Medalla por la Defensa de la Ciudad de Puebla). Instituted 1862. 1862 Issue. An oval silver gilt medal, obverse inscribed by LA REPÚBLICA MEXICANA A SUS VALIENTES HIJOS (The Mexican Republic to its Courage Sons) surrounded by a tied coffee wreath, reverse depicting the inscription TRIUNFO GLORIOSAMENTE DEL EJERCITO FRANCES DELANTE DE PUEBLA EL 5 DE MAYO DE 1862 (He Won with Glory against the French Army in Puebla on 5th of May of 1862) surrounded by a laurel wreath, measuring 21.52 mm (w) x 30.54 mm (h - inclusive of the integral ring), presenting minor wear in the edges, accompanied by original of time period ribbon, better than very good.

Footnote: The Medal for the Defense of the City of Puebla was instituted in Mexico in 1862 to award Mexican military personnel who defended the city of Puebla against a French invading army in 1862.

This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society. His knowledge and passion for history and awards is evident in this meticulously compiled collection that is now available in its entirety for the first time exclusively on eMedals.com.
