(Haus und Verdienstorden von Herzog Peter Friedrich Ludwig, Ritterkreuz II. Klasse). Instituted 27 November 1838 by Grand Duke Augustus of Oldenburg. (1906-1918 Issue). In silver presenting as a cross pattée with white enamelled arms, with central gilt monogram of Peter Friedrich Ludwig on a blue enamelled background, surrounded by red enamelled ring with gilt inscription of the Order’s motto EIN GOTT, EIN RECHT, EINE WAHRHEIT (ONE GOD, ONE RIGHTEOUSNESS, ONE TRUTH), reverse arms with beautifully hand painted inscriptions of dates of significance to the Order, with central enamelled medallion depicting a richly-detailed Oldenburg coat of arms, measuring 39.79 cm (w) x 44.03 mm (h), minor tarnishing of silver and no flecking of enamels evident, on loop for suspension from period original ribbon, and otherwise extremely fine.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
