An early case for the Order of Christ case of issue, a corrugated hard-shelled case in red color and gilded borders, the exterior bottom surface with attached label paper featuring the Portuguese Royal coat of arms together with the inscription DE SUA ALTEZA O SR. INFANTE D. AFFONSO (From Your Highness, Sr. Infante D. Affonso), interior in white silk, measuring 175 mm (w) x 47 mm (h) x 136 mm (l), missing bed medal, with busted holders, overall wearing exterior surfaces and nonfunctional push-button closer, in fair condition.
Footnote: Infante D. Afonso of Braganza, Duke of Porto, was born in 31 July 1865 in the Palace of Ajuda, Lisbon, and died in 21 February 1920 in Naples, Italy. He was son of King Dom Luis I of Portugal and Dona Maria Pia of Savoy. Insofar as titles are concerned, Afonso was, first and foremost, Infante of Portugal. The Infante Afonso was born during the reign of his father, Luís I, and, at birth, he was granted the title, Duke of Porto. He was the 109th and last Governor of Portuguese India to receive the title of viceroy.

Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
