Slovakia, Independent State. A War Victory Cross Order, II Class Case

(Vojenný víťazný kríž). Instituted in 1942. Hardshelled design on both the lid and base, wooden-framed, with a steel blue cloth exterior, the lid bearing the Slovakian coat-of-arms and inscribed ""Slovenský vojenný víťazný / kríž II. triedy"" in gold-coloured ink, inside lid lined in white satin and padded, the lining exhibiting the impression of the once present rosettes, a white cardboard insert placed within base and housing a raised platform in navy blue felt with a recessed medal bed for the badge and recessed beds for the two rosettes, single clasp closure, measuring 90.5 mm (w) x 148.3 mm (h) x 33.5 mm (d), light wear and scuffing on the bottom, along with a piece of the cloth covering peeling away along the rear edge on the lid on the exterior, very light soiling on the white satin on the inside lid and the hinged area, the interior without interruptions in the fabrics, better than very fine.

Footnote: The War Victory Cross Order was a medal introduced by the Slovak Republic. The order was issued to Slovakian military personnel who had been in the armed forces for a minimum of four years. A total of 3,769 awards of all classes were made, of which 437 were to members of the German armed forces and 142 to those of Romania.

This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society. His knowledge and passion for history and awards is evident in this meticulously compiled collection that is now available in its entirety for the first time exclusively on eMedals.com.
