City of Troy, New York Faithful Service in the World War Medal 1917-1919 (bronze, maker marked ""GORHAM CO"" on the reverse, 38 mm (w) x 43.5 mm (h), original ribbon with pinback); Union Veteran Legion 24th Encampment at Washington Representative's Medal 1909 (red bronze, maker marked ""J.K. DAVISON PHILA."" on the obverse, 35.2 mm, original ribbon inscribed in silver-coloured ink ""WASHINGTON 1909 U.V.L."", suspended from a red bronze pinback hanger inscribed ""UNION VETERAN LEGION REPRESENTATIVE""); and Catholic Order of Foresters Illinois State Court Badge (bronze gilt with red and blue enamels, unmarked, 41.5 mm (w) x 45 mm (h), suspended from two hangers linked by single chain links, one inscribed ""STATE ORGANIZER"" on its obverse and ""ACT'G STATE SEC'Y"" on its reverse, the other pinback hanger inscribed with the name ""GEO. M. STEINMILLER""). Intact enamels, ranging from very fine to extremely fine.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
