Hardshelled with a maroon-finished leather exterior, inscribed in gold-colored ink "FRED A. PLUM" on the lid, interior lined in violet velvet, both inside covers housing three rectangular panels, with violet satin pockets rising from the hinged area to the mid-point of each of the six panels in order to house medals, with two slotted areas above the panels on both sides, maker marked "The BAILEY, BANKS & BIDDLE COMPANY PHILADELPHIA" on the center pocket on the inside front cover, dual hinged, functional sliding metal release that locks in place, measuring 160 (w) x 138 mm (h) x 45 mm (d), wear and crazing evident in the maroon leather on the exterior, contact marks on the bottom, very fine.

Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
