Bavaria, Kingdom. A Franco-Prussian War Veteran’s Medal Bar
(Ordensschnalle). A Franco-Prussian War veteran’s medal bar featuring two decorations, including a Bavarian War Merit Cross, III Class with Swords, constructed of coppered bronze, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon, consisting of a Maltese Cross with pebbled arms, the obverse bearing a central raised monogram of King Ludwig II, within a stylized belt and buckle bearing a raised inscription of “MERENTI” (“MERIT”), the twelve o’clock arm overlaid by crossed swords, the reverse bearing a central raised Bavarian lion rampant, within a stylized belt and buckle bearing a raised institution date of “1866”, unmarked, measuring 42.58 mm (w) x 50.20 mm (h), weighing 19.5 grams, with oxidation evident, in overall very fine condition, and; an 1870 Iron Cross II Class with 25-Year Jubilee Clasp, constructed of iron and silver, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon with a 25-Year Jubilee Clasp, constructed of silvered bronze, the obverse consisting of three oak leaves overlaid by a raised number “25”, the reverse with both attachment prongs intact, unmarked, measuring 23.87 mm (w) x 16.65, the cross consisting of a Cross Pattée with a blackened magnetic iron core within a ribbed silver frame, the obverse with a central initial “W”, the six o’clock arm with a reinstitution date of “1870”, the reverse with three central oak leaves, the six o’clock arm with an initial institution date of “1813”, the twelve o’clock arm with initials “FW” topped by a royal crown, unmarked, measuring 42.89 mm (w) x 42.21 mm (h), weighing 15.5 grams, with age-appropriate oxidation evident, in overall better than very fine condition; both suspended from a 75 mm-long magnetic metal bar with a horizontal pinback and red wool reverse liner, unmarked, in overall near extremely fine condition.
