Instituted January 18, 1861 by King Wilhelm I. Type II. (Issue 1867-1918). In silver gilt, a white enamelled cross pattee with silver gilt interior border, the obverse medallion presents an embossed crown on a lightly pebbled Gold background, surrounded by a blue enamelled ring inscribed GOTT MIT UNS (God be with us), the reverse medallion presents the cypher WR, in a blue enamel surround inscribed DEN 18 OCTOBER 1861, measures 18.10mm (w) x 20.14mm (h – inclusive of integral ring), weighs 2.7 grams, suspension ring hosts a smaller internal ring at 12 o’clock, enamels intact, overall very fine condition.
