Germany, Heer. A Pair of Wehrmacht Heer (Army) Riding Breeches
(Heer Jodhpurhose). This is an extremely well-preserved pair of Wehrmacht Heer (Army) riding breeches, constructed of field-grey wool with a grey leather seat reinforcement. The exterior waist features four belt loops fastening to the breeches with a reinforced butthone meeting a grey zink button. There is an additional set of loop extending over the rear waistline into the interior of the breeches to accommodate a set of suspenders. Just underneath the belt area are two horizontally-arranged wool straps with adjustable magnetic metal buckles, functioning as a secondary belt apparatus. The front of the breeches has two side pockets with reinforced vertical slits and buttonholes meeting black bakelite buttons, and one small horizontal pocket with an identical button arrangement. The breeches also feature two rear pockets with reinforced horizontal slits and buttonholes meeting black bakelite buttons. The breeches are opened and closed by a 320 mm vertical slit with four black bakelite buttons meeting an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the opposite flap. The exterior is completed by a thick, double-stitched, grey-coloured leather reinforcement which covers the majority of the rear of the breeches from the belt area to the ankles. The interior of the breeches has a pinstripe rayon lining through the belt area, complete with loop for attachment to a hook when not in use, which is also stamped with measurements “176, 180, 80, 78, 114, 94, E. 43”. Stitched into the pocket liners are two white-coloured cotton ribbons with snap buttons. The breeches are unmarked and measure approximately 362 mm across the waist and 1110 mm from the waistline to the ankle. There is some usage-related wear to the leather reinforcement, but the breeches are in an otherwise extremely fine condition.
