Germany. A German Cross in Gold by Otto Klein; With Miniature Stick Pin and Case of Issue
This is an extremely well preserved example of a German Cross in Gold (Deutsches Kreuz in Gold) by an uncommon maker; the obverse consisting of a double-overlaid sunburst pattern with eight points; the center with a black enameled rotated (mobile) swastika, with the enamels well preserved without chipping of any kind and only minor contact marks; within a stamped gilded circular wreath impressed with oak leaves, ribbons, and the introduction year “1941”; the inner and outer sides of the wreath feature a thin red enameled rings with a silver core in the middle; the reverse plain but with a broad vertical pinback with a functional sheet metal hinge and a thick, slightly rounded catch; maker marked “134” for “Otto Klein & Co.” on the reverse; measuring 63.17 mm (w) x 63.17 mm (h); weighing 45.6 grams. Accompanied by a miniature stickpin; visually the same as the German Cross in Gold described above, but marked “L/57” for “Börger & Co” on the reverse; 54 mm long knurled pin; measuring 15 mm (w) x 16 mm (h). Accompanied by its original presentation case; constructed of heavy pressed cardstock, with a black faux leather (leatherette) exterior; lined interior lid with a slotted medal bed; intact interior fabric hinge cover with intact exterior leatherette hinge; measuring 106 mm (w) x 106 mm (h); in overall better than extremely fine condition.
