A group of five German and Austro-Hungarian pins and badges, including a patriotic badge, of multi-piece construction, featuring a wreath affixed to a yellow-enamelled cross pattée bordered in black enamel, with a silvered medallion riveted to the centre, featuring the profiles of Wilhelm and Franz Joseph, the reverse presents the engraving of the letter “W” and “GES.GESCHÜTZT,” with a horizontal pinback, measures 29.59 mm (w) x 28.84 mm (h), and in near extremely fine condition. A circular badge, constructed of a gilded laurel wreath surrounded a white-enamelled central field presenting the crowned initials of “FJ 1.” and “W,” the wreath is topped by the Kossuth Coat of Arms and bordered by the Coat of Arms of Austria-Hungary on the left and the Coat of Arms of the German Empire on the right, reverse shows writing in black ink stating “3252a Kot 2.,” on a horizontal pinback, measuring 36.23 mm (w) x 34.40 mm (h), and in better than very fine condition. A patriotic cap badge in the form of a straight-armed cross pattée, constructed of multi-coloured enamels, the cross arms display the flags of the Central Powers (Austria, Hungary, Germany, and the Ottoman Empire), on the central medallion are the profiles of Wilhelm and Franz Joseph, reverse shows a horizontal pinback, measuring 21.20 mm (w) x 21.28 mm (h), and in very fine condition. An aluminum pin in the shape of a heart, displaying the facing profiles of Wilhelm and Franz Joseph, inscribed with “VIRIBUS UNITIS,” on a horizontal pinback, marked with “GES. GESCH.” on reverse, measures 28.91 mm (w) x 34.07 mm (h), and in very fine condition. A patriotic badge in the shape of an octagon, bearing the left-ward facing profiles of Wilhelm and Franz Joseph, bearing the motto “MIT VEREINTEN KRÄFTEN” (“WITH UNITED FORCES”), surmounted with both crowns, on a horizontal pinback, measuring 23.33 mm (w) x 29.60 mm (h), and in very fine condition.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
