What's a max bid?

Your maximum bid should be the highest amount you're willing to pay for an item.

Your entered maximum bid will not be disclosed to the seller or other auction participants at any point.

Max bidding example:

If the current auction price is $100 dollars and you place a maximum bid of $120 dollars, the system will bid $101 dollars on your behalf.

If no other participant places a bid, you win that auction lot for $101 dollars.

If another auction participant places a bid of $110 dollars, the system will subsequently place a bid of $111 dollars on your behalf. The system will continue to bid in $1.00 dollar increments until your maximum bid of $120 dollars is exceeded.

If another auction participant places a bid for $125 dollars, the auction lot price will display $121 dollars having exceeded your previously submitted maximum bid by $1.00 dollar.

Iran, Pahlavi Empire. An Order of the Lion and Sun, 2nd Class Star, by Halley, c.1860

(Neshaan-e shir o khorshid). Instituted in 1808.1848-1860 Issue. Of typical mid 19th Century Halley manufacture, consisting of seven hand filed multirayed arms, each separated by a green enameled ray, with silver star in each quadrant (a stylistic Halley feature of this order), reverse with dual stays as well as pin assembly, with finely hand painted on enamel lion and sun, reverse presenting an ornate Halley makers cartouche, hallmarked on pin as well as catch with with Paris assay mark on obverse 10 'clock fleur-de-lis with boars head denoting 800 silver fineness (1838-1962), also makers marked on pin of Octave Lasne, a successor of Halley, whose mark often appears on Halley manufactured items of the 19th Century, measuring 80.8 mm (w) x 78.3 mm (h), a fine example, better than extremely fine.

Footnote: The Imperial Order of the Lion and the Sun was instituted by Fat’h Ali Shah of the Qajar Dynasty in 1808, to honour foreign officials (later extended to Persians) who had rendered distinguished services to Persia. In 1925, under the Pahlavi dynasty the Order continued as the Order of Homayoun with new insignia, though based on the Lion and Sun motif. This motif was used for centuries by the rulers of Persia, being formally adopted under Mohammad Shah. The order was senior to the Order of the Crown. It was issued in five grades.
