(Eechelaafkrounenuerden). Instituted 1841. 1841-Present Issue. Likely of French manufacture, in silver gilt consisting of a white enameled Cross Patée, with obverse centre featuring the cypher of Wilhelm II King of the Netherlands in silver gilt, with finely enameled green background, mirrored reverse, hallmarked on both integral ball suspension and elongated loop with Dutch import/duty mark "vreemd" for used imported objects between 1906 and 1953, measuring 49.78 mm (w) x 55.22 mm (h - inclusive of integral ball), on original neck ribbon, with loss of gilt and light contact to enamels, otherwise very fine.
Footnote: The Order of the Oaken Crown was established by Wilhelm II King of the Netherlands and Grand Duke of Luxembourg by Grand Ducal Decree on December 29, 1841. It is the oldest Order in Luxembourg. It is currently conferred upon civilians and military personnel of Luxembourg, as well as foreigners, in recognition of exceptional achievements.

Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
