What's a max bid?

Your maximum bid should be the highest amount you're willing to pay for an item.

Your entered maximum bid will not be disclosed to the seller or other auction participants at any point.

Max bidding example:

If the current auction price is $100 dollars and you place a maximum bid of $120 dollars, the system will bid $101 dollars on your behalf.

If no other participant places a bid, you win that auction lot for $101 dollars.

If another auction participant places a bid of $110 dollars, the system will subsequently place a bid of $111 dollars on your behalf. The system will continue to bid in $1.00 dollar increments until your maximum bid of $120 dollars is exceeded.

If another auction participant places a bid for $125 dollars, the auction lot price will display $121 dollars having exceeded your previously submitted maximum bid by $1.00 dollar.

Germany, SS. A Model 1933 Dagger, by Gottlieb Hammesfahr

(SS Dolch). A Model 1933 SS dagger, measuring 375 mm in total length when inserted into the scabbard. It features a 220 mm-long polished magnetic steel blade with a sharpened tip and edges. Acid-etched onto the obverse of the blade is an inscription of “MEINE EHRE HEIßT TREUE” (“MY HONOUR IS LOYALTY”) in Fraktur script. The reverse ricasso bears a maker’s mark of “GOTTLIEB HAMMESFAHR, SOLINGEN-FOCHE”, circumscribing the firm’s logo. The balde sits securely within a nickel-plated upper crossguard, marked with eight notches distributed in groups of four at both the top and bottom. The handle grip is composed of a single piece of blackened wook which is carved into a curvature for a comfortable grip. Inset into the obverse of the handle is a silvered German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, measuring 25 mm (w) x 15 mm (h). Also inset into the obverse of the pommel is a black and silvered SS insignia measuring 9 mm in diameter. It completes with a nickel-plated lower crossguard, similarly marked with eight notches, which is held in place by a rounded pommel nut that securely maintains the dagger’s structural integrity. It is accompanied by its period original scabbard, constructed of a black-painted magnetic metal shaft. Magnetic metal fixtures are secured to both the tip and throat with dual side rivets. The latter retains a functional spring catch to firmly hold the dagger in place during storage, and features an integral loop for the accommodation of an optional hanger. Issues consistent with age and wear are evident, and include some running marks and oxidation of the blade, chipping to the handle (some of which has been repaired around the SS insignia), and minor loss of finish to the nickel-plated and magnetic elements. The dagger is in an overall very fine condition.
