Layaway Policy

Your contract will be automatically cancelled and ordered merchandise will be returned to inventory if full payment is not submitted by the three (3) month deadline.

What's a max bid?

Your maximum bid should be the highest amount you're willing to pay for an item.

Your entered maximum bid will not be disclosed to the seller or other auction participants at any point.

Max bidding example:

If the current auction price is $100 dollars and you place a maximum bid of $120 dollars, the system will bid $101 dollars on your behalf.

If no other participant places a bid, you win that auction lot for $101 dollars.

If another auction participant places a bid of $110 dollars, the system will subsequently place a bid of $111 dollars on your behalf. The system will continue to bid in $1.00 dollar increments until your maximum bid of $120 dollars is exceeded.

If another auction participant places a bid for $125 dollars, the auction lot price will display $121 dollars having exceeded your previously submitted maximum bid by $1.00 dollar.

Buyer's Premium

All bids are subject to a Buyer's Premium which is in addition to the placed successful bid. The following rate of Buyer's Premium will be added to the Hammer Price of each Lot that you purchase:

United States. A Rare 1857 James Buchanan Indian Peace Medal

In solid silver, a first size medal, obverse presenting a high relief right facing bust of James Buchanan, surrounded by the inscription JAMES BUCHANAN, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES and dated 1857 at 6 o'clock, the reverse center presents a scene of a horse pulling a plow with figures playing baseball, a house and church in the background, around the outside presents two Native figures engaging in a violent act, with a quiver of arrows below on the left side, and a bow covering a pipe on the right, with a Native face at 6 o'clock, the medal is pierced at 12 o'clock for suspension as issued, measures 75.6mm (w) x 75.6mm (h), weighs 179.7 grams, notable contact marks and edge knocks on obverse, reverse and rim, wear typical to these medals, lovely patina, an extremely rare medal in very fine condition.

 

Footnote: Salathiel Ellis and Joseph Wilson designed and created the Buchanan medal. This medal was only awarded during the administration of Buchanan and Abraham Lincoln. It is known for having the first illustration of a baseball game in medallic form. This was used to depict the ways of Euro-American settlers as both productive and enjoyable in stark contrast to Native life.
