1854-1918 Issue. (Preußische Rote Adlerorden II. Klasse mit Eichenlaub); A very detailed cross pattée with four white enameled arms, on a silver star; the obverse with a circular enameled medallion depicting an enameled crowned eagle, surrounded by a white enameled ring, inscribed “Sincere Et Constanter” (Latin - Sincere and persistent); the reverse with a vertical pin and a functional hinge/catch assembly; the maker mark on the pin removed however exhibiting the manufacturing characteristics of Wager,with four screw-and-nut assemblies; measuring 79.35 mm (w) x 79.98 mm (h); weighing 72.6 grams; the enamels on the obverse extremely well preserved, with only light contact marks; in overall virtually mint condition. Footnote: With a total of 23 of this Order of the Red Eagle Second Class with Oakleaves awarded.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
