(Орден Святого Александра). Instituted 21 May 1725 by Catherine I. In Gold, consisting of a Maltese Cross with exquisite red enamels, with finely detailed Romanov imperial eagles in each quadrant, obverse bearing a central applique with an expertly hand-painted depiction of Alexander Nevsky mounted on a white horse, inside a stylized, hand etched Gold ring, reverse with central applique consisting of a white enameled medallion bearing a hand-painted monogram of Alexander Nevsky, inside a Gold ring, on an elongated Gold loop, reverse six o’clock arm of the cross bears Cyrillic initials “ІК” for maker Julius Keibel while the twelve o’clock arm bears a Romanov royal warrant, reverse integral ring stamped with a Gold zolotnik mark of “56” and a date of “1867”, measuring 54.35 mm (w) x 60.31 mm (h), weighing 31.6 grams, on period red silk sash, slight loosening of obverse applique, otherwise better than extremely fine.

Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
