(Орден Святой Анны). Instituted 1735. Civil Division. A mid 19th century example of typical Imperial quality, in Gold with four finely red enameled arms in Gold frames, ornate hand etched design in each quadrant, obverse centre applique presents the portrait of St.Anne, hand painted on enamel, reverse centre bearing the initials "A.I.P.F." (for "Anna Imperatoris Petri Filia": "Anna, Emperor Peter's daughter" in Latin) hand painted on enamel, marked with Imperial Russian Eagle on reverse 12 o'clock arm, maker marked IK on 6 o'clock arm denoting manufacture by master jeweler Ivan Keibel, operating independently on Gusev Cross-Street, St. Petersburg from 1842 until after his death until 1905, marked on integral ring 56 denoting 14k Gold content and year 1867 and asterisk denoting St.Petersburg manufacture, measuring 49 mm (w) x 54.9 mm (h - inclusive of integral ring), with elongated Gold loop, with enamel loss to obverse 3 o'clock arm, accompanied by early 20th century silk sash, fair.

 

This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society. His knowledge and passion for history and awards is evident in this meticulously compiled collection that is now available in its entirety for the first time exclusively on eMedals.com.
