(Орден Святого Станислава). Instituted on 7 May 1765. Instituted 1765. (House of Romanov). Civil Division. A fine star of the order, in silver, consisting of eight distinctive arms, each composed of a cluster of individual smooth rays, obverse centre presents a red-enamelled “SS” on a white-enamelled field, with a silver gilt motto “PRAEMIANDO INCITAT” (“REWARDING ENCOURAGES”) on a white-enamelled background, encircled by an outer ring composed of silver gilt laurels on a green-enamelled background, the reverse presents a vertical pin assembly, hallmarked with a kokoshnik assay mark on pin, a zolotnik silver fineness number “84” for 875 Silver, maker mark “BA” and "ЗДУАРАЪ" denoting Eduard-VD (Varvara Dietwald) of St. Petersburg, measures 95.02 mm (w) x 94.71 mm (h), weighs 70.9 grams, and in extremely fine condition.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
