1902-1918 issue. (Großherzoglich Sächsischer Hausorden vom Weißen Falken Ritterkreuz 2. Klasse); a silver Maltese cross with green enameled arms, and red enameled parallelograms between the arms of the cross; the obverse with a large leftward facing white enameled Falcon superimposed in the center; the reverse with a central gilt applique with bright blue enamels, inscribed “Viginando Ascendimus” (Latin - We rise through watchfulness), with white enameled arms and green enameled parallelograms with white enameled tips; suspended from a swivel crown suspension, with a horizontally pierced ball and loop, and with its period original ribbon - collector’s paper tag attached to the reverse; an unmarked example; measuring 37.33 mm (w) x 61.62 mm (h); weighing 19.6 grams, with minor enamel loss to 3 o'clock arm, extremely fine.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
