A fine example of an 1899-1918 issue Princly Schaumburg-Lippe Houseorder Cross Fourth Class (Fürstlicher Hausorden Kreuz IV Klasse); a silver maltese cross; the obverse with an eight-pointed star, with a central red enameled medallion bearing a silver nessel leaf and a Lippian rose, surrounded by a blue enameled ring, inscribed “Für true und verdienst” (German - For loyalty and service); the reverse with a central blue enameled medallion with a royal crown and the royal monogram of Adolph George; on a horizontally-pierced ball and loop suspension; with its period original ribbon; measuring 45.66 mm x 45.88 mm; weighing 30.6 grams with its ribbon; in overall better than very fine condition.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
