Russia, Imperial. A 1708 Count Fyodor Apraskin Commemorative Medal
Constructed of bronze, the obverse bearing a raised and rightward facing profile of Count Fyodor Matveyevich Apraskin, circumscribed by name and title in Cyrillic, the reverse bearing a raised depiction of four Russian warships at sea, circumscribed by a Cyrillic inscription of “DEATH IS BETTER THAN INFIDELITY FOR THOSE WHO ARE VIGILANT”, situated above a date of “1708” indicating issue to commemorative Admiral Apraskin’s leadership during the Great Northern War, the obverse bearing a illegible engraver’s mark, measuring 54.35 mm in diameter, demonstrating sporadic surface oxidation throughout, in better than very fine condition.
