Russia, Imperial. A 1739 Commemorative Medal for Peace with Turkey
Constructed of bronze, the obverse bearing a raised and rightward-facing bust of Empress Anna, circumscribed by name and title in Cyrillic, the reverse bearing a raised Russian imperial eagle clutching a laurel crown in its beak, surrounded by standard flags, topped by a Cyrillic inscription of “GLORY TO THE EMPIRE” and situated above an additional inscription indicating that the medal was issued to commemorate the peace agreement with Turkey which concluded the Russo-Turkish War of 1735-1739, the obverse engraver marked “С. ЮДИН” (“S. YUDIN”), measuring 62.10 mm in diameter, demonstrating some edge nicks and minor tarnishing, in better than very fine condition.
