Russia, Imperial. A 1774 Medal for the Peace Treaty with the Ottoman Empire, by Gass and Iaeger
Constructed of silvered zink, the obverse bearing a raised and rightward-facing bust of Tsarina Catherine II (“the Great”), circumscribed by name and title in Russian Cyrillic, the reverse bearing a raised depiction of Minerva wielding caduceus against a seascape, flanked on the right by a monument, circumscribed by a Cyrillic dedication to the 1774 peace treaty which ended the Russo-Turkish War of 1768-1774 on favourable terms for the Russian Empire (the Treaty of Küçük Kaynarca), engraver and maker marked “GASS” and “IAEGER”, measuring 82 mm in diameter, demonstrating minor loss of finish with some edge nicks, in near extremely fine condition.
