Russia, Imperial. A Table Medal the Centenary of the Imperial Free Economic Society, 1860
Constructed of bronze, the obverse bearing central mirrored profiles of Empress Catherine II (“the Great”) and Tsar Alexander II, below a female figure representing the personification of wisdom, and above agricultural imagery, the reverse bearing a central beehive situated atop a globe bearing a map of Russia, circumscribed by a Russian Cyrillic inscription indicating that the medal was issued to commemorate the centenary of the Imperial Free Economic Society, in turn surrounded by images of equipment and livestock of significance to Russian agriculture and farming, designer and engraver marked A. Lyalin and A. Semyenov, measuring 56.74 mm in diameter, with a consistent patina throughout, in near extremely fine condition.
