Russia, Imperial. An 1856 Medal for the Coronation of Tsar Alexander II, by Mikhail Kuchkin and Alexander Lyalin
Constructed of patinated bronze, the obverse bearing a raised and rightward-facing profile of Tsar Alexander II, circumscribed by name and title in Russian Cyrillic, situated above a small inscription indicating that the medal was issued in 1856 on the occasion of the Tsar’s coronation in Moscow, the reverse bearing a raised and detailed coat of arms of the House of Romanov, circumscribed by a Russian Cyrillic inscription of “GOD IS WITH US”, double-marked for engravers and medallist Mikhail Kuchkin and Alexander Lyalin, measuring 64 mm in diameter, with minor loss of finish visible to high-contact points, in near extremely fine condition.
