Russia, Imperial. An 1861 Commemorative Medal for the Liberation of Peasants from Serfdom
Constructed of bronze, the obverse bearing a central raised depiction of Tsar Alexander II in the regalia of a medieval Russian warrior, his arms around a nobleman and peasant who are shaking hands, situated against a backdrop featuring agricultural imagery, topped by a date of “19 FEBRUARY 1861” in Cyrcillic, the reverse bearing a central raised Russian Orthodox cross overlaying a radiant background, circumscribed by a Cyrillic prayer, the obverse engraver marked “Н. КОЗИН” (“N. KOZIN”), measuring 68.28 mm in diameter, in extremely fine condition.
