Russia, Imperial. An 1887 Table Medal for Dedication of the Alexander II Monument in St. Petersburg, by Matthew Chizhov
Constructed of coppered bronze, the obverse bearing a raised and finely-detailed depiction of a memorial to Tsar Alexander II constructed in the building of the St. Petersburg Stock Exchange, topped by name and title in Russian Cyrillic, situated with a semi-circular laurel and oak leaf wreath, the reverse bearing a dedication circumscribed by foundation and completion dates of 14 September 1886 and 19 February 1887, the obverse marked A. Chizhov for noted Russian sculpture Matthew Afanasyevich Chizhov, measuring 77.22 mm in diameter, with loss of finish and a consistent patina evident, in near extremely fine condition.
