(Nordstjärneorden). Instituted 1748 by King Frederick I. Type II (1871-1919). In silver gilt, consisting of a white enameled Maltese Cross with ball finials, crowns in each quadrant with enameled jewels, obverse centre presenting a white enameled star on a blue background, Motto ""Nescit occasum"" (It knows no decline), reverse presents matching centre, with an ornate Royal crown suspension, hallmarked with boars head on integral suspension denoting French manufacture and silver content, without makers mark however exhibiting the manufacturing characteristics of Arthus Bertrand, measuring 39 mm (w) x 62 mm (h - inclusive of crown, horizontally pierced ball suspension adorned by cross), on period black silk ribbon, with enamel wear, fine.

Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
