The Dominican Order of Merit of Duarte, Sanchez and Mella - Knight Cross; Multi-piece construction, Cuban-made, silver gilt and enamels, obverse centrepiece with the profiles of Duarte, Sanchez and Mella in a tri-circle cluster with sprigs of wreathing between each, reverse centrepiece illustrating the coat-of-arms of the Dominican Republic, 58.5 mm x 88.8 mm inclusive of its wreath suspension, original ribbon, hanger patent marked "PAT. 2066969" and missing its pinback, enamel chipping at 11 o'clock on the white enamelled centrepiece, near extremely fine. In its hardshelled case of issue, marked "FABRICADO EN CUBA / ANTIGUA VILARDEBO Y RIERA TALLER 06 JOYEIRA DRACONBS 53 HABANA" on the inside lid, recessed medal bed, scuffed exterior, case near very fine. Footnote: The Order of Duarte, Sanchez and Mella is the principal order of the Dominican Republic. It was established on February 24, 1931 as the Juan Pablo Duarte Order of Merit and renamed on September 9, 1954. The Head of State confers the Order, both to civilians and military personnel for distinguished services.
